Best practices for developing desktop application for Windows and Linux?

I have to provide a small application that should be run on both Windows and Linux \UNIX. A desktop application.

It should provide one screen and a few buttons on it. It should run some commands in background (run command-line or call REST APIs) and then display a list-box with results and the user has to choose one of the options.

Easy deployment is also important (it should be deployed to hundreds of Windows \Linux machines).

What would you suggest and why?

Java? Xamarin? Qt? Python? Anything else? I'm wondering what's the best approach today if I have to provide a desktop application for both Windows and Linux.
