HOW TO DISPLAY THE SCROLLING MESSAGES ON 16X8 LED MATRIX USING ATMEGA16??

Sir,i am working on these project.I am successful in displaying the letters on LED but i am unable to know how to scroll these letters using ATMEGA16

Are there any use of shift registers?
