Send a console command from Vim to a VNC session

I have an SSH tunnel and a VNC connection running to the same linux server. Via SSH I am running Vim. Can I send a console command from Vim to the VNC server? Specifically I want to send a command to open a pdf document, say with xpdf, at a certain specified location.
