can't kill a process in netbeans 7.1.1

Hello I can't seem to cancel my process in netbeans 7.1.1. I have tried every sort of way to cancel the process such as right clicking the runtime tab and clicking cancel process but still the process continues to run. The only way to solve the problem is by closing out of netbeans Is there some other alternative ? I am all ears
