Sharing FB Custom Tab URL displays pixelated 111x74 app icon in news feed

I'm hoping there's been movement on this, as the last occurrences I've seen documented were at least a year ago.

Here's the issue: I have some iframe custom tabs that our social team shares on our community pages for promotion. On a normal page, Facebook's scrapper will pull in the OG tags, including the 1200x630px (minimum recommended size) image to display on the share post. With a custom tab, the OG data is not scrapped as it is in the iframe, instead Facebook pulls the app's 111x74px icon image. This results in a very pixelated image being shared. This is not acceptable in our line of work.

I'm not seeing anything at all documented on this from Facebook's side and the only solution I've seen people come up with is a redirect page that will serve up the OG tags to the Facebook crawler, and redirect the user to the Facebook tab URL. This solution is also unacceptable as Facebook will open an offsite link in a new window/tab, where as the Facebook tab URL would be opened in the same Facebook tab. The client wants to keep that functionality, rather than clutter the user's experience.

So, I'm looking for a solution that maybe I just haven't found, or is not documented on how to provide Facebook's crawler with a high resolution image for the share of a Facebook Custom Tab.
