Mobile Chrome iOS Nav Bar Event

I have a parallax site that is using background images with a background-size:cover. However it doesn't play nicely with mobile chrome on iOS since mobile Chrome's nav bar changes the window height in the Dom forcing the browser to recalculate the background image size. I've created some js to hardcode the window height upon page load and orientation change. However if the device changes orientation when the nav bar is hidden(which it's exposed upon page load and works flawlessly) then the calulations are all thrown off again once the nav bar is revealed. Is there an event listener or some sort of object detection for mobile chrome on IOS to detect if the navBar is exposed?
