Should I use Xamarin.Forms for a new project

I need to create a new app that will run on iOS and Android and I'll use Xamarin for that. I was reading about Xamarin.Forms and I thought it is cool but I'm not sure if it will really help or not. I have experience in Android UI but I don't have any in iOS UI so it may help me a lot. Have you guy used it? What would you recommend? Should I go for it or just learn iOS UI stuff and use it? I read that I can just use the platform's specific code if I want to, is that correct? If so, Xamarin.Forms won't impose any limitations and I'll be good to go, right? Any guidance and any aditional help at this state will really help me to get started.
