Remote shell access

I've been beating my head in with this issue for a while, I'm a programmer working with a small number of friends to develop some applications. My friends are mostly artists and using Windows in various configurations and I need to make build setting changes on their machines individually.

Normally I'd just use TeamViewer to go in and tweak things, but as things get more complex it takes me more time, people may or may not be online with varying degrees of connection qualities.

I basically just need to access the Windows command prompt and set a rearrange files. I'm looking for some kind of tool or method that's similar to TeamViewer but for shell control only.

The answer is generally ssh, but ssh is complex to set up and often requires port forwarding at the router level to connect remotely. Most of my friends run off some shared router at a business, apartment complex, or college; so that's not really an option.

Is there any tool like this? Any insight is appreciated.

TL;DR: I'm looking for something like TeamViewer for just console access, TeamViewer is too slow and ssh is too complex.
