Strange nullpointerexception

I'm getting a nullpointer exception, which is normally a trivial fix. But is just don't get this.

The line 55 that the exception occur in is:

gameplayer.updPlayers();

I suppose it's because the gameplayer variable points to null, but that should not be possible. Just before this i assigned a newly instantiated object to the gameplayer variable. And even when debugging the instance variable does not point to null.

So what could possibly be wrong?

Any suggestions are welcome - i am not good at reading stack traces, but i dont think theres much to argue about when it's a nullpointerexception like this?
