Android Making a Timer on a Thread that is resettable

I was just wondering if anyone could show me how to create a timer on a thread that counts down in seconds. When the timer hits 0 or if a button is pressed the timer stops. It also needs to be resettable so it can be used multiple times.

I thought that making a method to do this would be the easiest way, but I am completely new to threads.
