iphone proximity senser :: detecting nearest cellphone

I would like users to put their cellphones on a table and as soon as two cellphones are in close proximity(lets say closer than 10"), we see the colors on their screen to blend. What is the best approach to achieve this? Is it possible to achieve this through a website (No app to download). Can I achieve it with jquery or javascript alone or do i need back-end coding?
