Add new data to predictions

I am new to R and have a question concerning, "the predict command" I used for my geeglm model (repeated measurements). If I just use the code:

predict(model),

I get missing values. If I use predict(model, newdata), I don't get any missing data.

I am curious how this commands works. Does it reconcile the correlations between different repeated measurements in my data?
