AngularJS - $location.path only changes the path once

Say I have two states: /front and /members. To illustrate the point of my problem, say that the controller in /members simply wants to redirect the page back to /front and so I use $location.path('/front');

I continuously click on the navigation link to /members. I expect the URL and the state to change to /front. Here is what happens:

1. 1st hit: everything as expected - URL and state change to /front


2. 2nd hit: URL changes to /front but state remains as /members


3. 3rd hit: Neither URL nor the state change, and both remain as `/members

I appreciate any help I can get!
