Merge two like or different image file formats correctly into one customized hybrid

I would like to have someone help me create a customized hybrid of two or more image files correctly from scratch.

So far, I have typed the following commands in Windows shell:

copy /b file1.iso+file2.iso fileMerge.iso
copy /b file1.iso+file2.nrg fileMerge.iso
copy /b file1.nrg+file2.nrg fileMerge.nrg

Afterwards I tried to burn them onto a blank CD-R, but it failed to work. I have also tried to read from those images, but that failed as well.

What am I doing wrong? Can anybody, who is an expert of file image creation techniques, provide me some suggestions?

Can it be done in other operating systems, such as Linux or Mac?

Should I try to create a UDF file image first, and then attach those hybrid images in Linux or Mac?

So far, I have tried this in Windows. Although the merge succeeded, those hybrids failed to burn.

Thanks in advance for your responses.
