PROJECT: Building my first DB (Access 2010) for a 16-yr old Community Care, volunteer organisation.
CHALLENGE: 2-fold – limited inexperience in VBA programming or working with Access & secondly, the need to discover solutions to a few challenges that my novice-level comprehension is yet to resolve (with ongoing scrutiny of Google, YouTube, Microsoft publications etc.) Being under time restrictions to release a working draft has had me look to seek assistance through Stack Overflow members.
Q1. I have created a Report that also presents additional Form data, inserted as a sub-Report, where both are linked through a primary-key identifier and a date-based relationship. At the moment, the sub-Report lists all entries related to the primary/foreign key (as required) but I need to restrict the records shown in the sub-Report to match the date reference(s) in the main Report.
Q2. Is there a way to bring info into a Report where valid records that repeat certain field details are reduced to ditto (“) marks (or left blank?) – e.g. an address is required but may be repeated 2 or 3 times in successive records relating to the same individual (for example, parent/guardian records relating to dependent children.) There are a number of fields to display across a landscape-oriented page so I don’t want to use the grouping option the Report Wizard offers.
Q3. I have created a Query to calculate initial stats (transferred to a table) required to develop another Query to calculate additional stats that are presented in a Report. It is necessary to run the first Query to update all info essential to recalculate a Report that is current at the time of production. How can I have the first Query run (without warnings operative) when someone clicks on the Stats Report button?
I suspect the basic nature of these questions will definitely expose my present limitations, but nonetheless, I am keen to help this dedicated organisation as they reach-out to the needy. Any assistance will be gratefully appreciated.
