What is "/......we" http request showing up in access log

I'm seeing "/......we" resource requests being logged by my web server (for which it's returning 404, which is fine). What concerns me is that these requests appear to (solely) come from residential Verizon IPs (as opposed to Russian and Chinese sources) and Google returns no relevant results for the exact string "/......we". Has anyone else experienced such? If so, what is this request? Is it a hack attempt or some obnoxious vendor-specific request like "/apple-touch-icon-precomposed.png" or the dreaded PROPFIND of MSO?
