Very large git repository after error on my last commit

Without realizing it, I uploaded a folder containing media, which was not in my .gitignore. The problem is that now, even after all cancel service on my next commit, I end up with a very large git repository (60mb+), which slowed all recoveries I do (git pull).

How can I remove this error and re-write the history of git?
