Can other programming languages will be usefull about Ruby learn?

Does knowing other languages help us to understand better our chosen or working one language? Or learning two or more may be a bit/lot confusing. If so, which one is the best? Is it PHP, or may be Perl, or Python! Please be open to shere any suggestions,it will be highly appreciated. I am a begginer on ruby and look to find the right way. I obviously have a lot of questions but for this moment this is like a start point - to not lose precious time. And to extend my skills faster.
