Is LLJS truly performant?

I've cloned the repo for this lljs demo - (http://ift.tt/1o60Uo7)

To test the performance improvement, I removed the "use asm" directive. I found that the demo actually runs faster when asm is disabled. This is the opposite of my expectations.

Can anyone explain why "use asm" is slower? This is even more evident in Firefox than in Chrome.

I'm testing with Chrome 38 / FireFox 33, on Linux Mint 17/64 bit.
