What database? Objective-C

I want to make an app that people can connect to each other and create quizzes and share them into the app, and people can view them and all that stuff like that. If I wanted to do a social app like that where anyone can add stuff and other people can view it do I need to use databases? Or what would I need to use to do something like this, what particular API do I need to use. I am fairly new to Xcode and databases , so wondering if i need database or API. Sorry if this question is really easy.

Summary :

I am making an app which will allow users to create items and post them on to the app, and others can view it (something like instagram), do I need a database if so which one would be the easiest or one for an amateur and if i do not need a database what API or what do I need to use.
