How to run a standalone ruby file containing a test application

Ok so I want to run this example app: http://ift.tt/1pYTWRA

I clone it to my drive, navigate to the example folder, and then run a bundle install so that I have all the gems. Yay!

Now what? If I just do ruby app.rb nothing happens, but then again I don't expect it to either because nothing in the code suggests I'll interact via console.

How do I spin up a whatever to get this thing running?
