JQuery: Storying HTML block in var

var anotherListItem = '<div class= "form-list"> 
                         <button class= "done"></button> 
                         <input type= "text"> 
                       </div>'

This is not working. I've also tried to include a backslash at every ' like so: '//' but it doesn't help. Help?
