Peer join notifications for wi-fi direct using c++

I need to know how to obtain notifications or register for notifications when a peer connects to a wi-fi drect enabled device. The msdn documentations for using the wi-fi direct API only document the basic functions without any details or specifications provided. I am looking for answers for the following:

1) MSDN clearly states that ad-hoc network formation wont be supported on Windows 8 and above desktops. I want to know if an equivalent notification code to wlan_notification_msm_peer_join exists for wi-fi direct.

2) If it doesnt exist then what other alternative do I have to notify myself of a peer join to my wi-fi direct enabled laptop?

Any sort of helpful information would be highly appreciated.
