Grab football data from an external source and use it in my rails app?

How can I simply grab football data from an external source and use it in my rails app ?

I know about some API but I cannot find one where its clear to me how to extract the data. I am thinking that I would run some cron job to fetch/update the data on a regular basis.

I want to be able to use it as I would with a Rails app database with ActiveRecord.

I have no idea How could I get the data => transform it in readable data => save it to my database => run querries.
