iOS search results: numberOfSectionsInTableView called, but others not

I was implementing a search for my tableview based off of the TableSearch example provided by apple. Unfortunately, the search controller's tableview isn't being updated. There is just an empty table. The search results are successfully passed to the search controller's tableview and the numberOfSectionsInTableView is called...however, numberOfRowsInSection is never called.

Why is this the case?
