Sending an email when a MySql database entry changes in PHP

I have never sent an email with PHP before and I was wondering how I could do this. I have a field in my table called process when the process is shipped which is approved by a manager (they click a button which updates the process to shipped) I'd like to send an email to the user that the order has been shipped. I've been googling all day but I can't find anything..
