Need code that tests internet connection quality over time

My objective is to run something simple on two servers to generate line quality data over 24 hours, for example average latency, download speed, upload speed every 10 minutes.

Googling and checking Stack Overflow have yielded monitors that watch data go by, or check the whole network, like wireshark and pcap. I'm looking for something much simpler (see spec above)

The particular application is to check latency, download and upload speeds between one location (Tokyo) and another (Shanghai or others) because the boundary between China and Rest of World seems to be very flaky.

Can you point me to such code? (Python would be nice, but anything helps)
