neo4j start server by command "neo4j" in bin directory

I was starting neo4j server based on its own instruction (http://ift.tt/1vGEq4j) by entering command "bin/neo4j start" under neo4j dir in terminal. It works fine. Besides this, I also tried entering "neo4j" in bin directory, but i doesn't work. Could anyone explain it to me? Thanks
