Is ivshmem the best way to share memory b/w host and guest on KVM

What is the best way to share memory b/w a host process and a VM ? I looked at ivshmem, but that seems to be more aligned towards VM to VM communication. I need something where I can share memory b/w a process running on the host with a VM. Device model will be best... what I mean is , if the shared memory is represented as a device in the guest, the way its done in ivshmem, then that will be grt8..
